It was long believed that the most of the Psalms, along with the Books of Samuel, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and perhaps Ruth were written during the reigns of Kings David and Solomon.

Although scholars do not dispute the historicity of David and Solomon, they substantially agree that all these books were written during a much later period.
