There are many types of black and red beetles I do not know any of them but I searched "beetles that are black and red" on Google and a whole lot of resources popped up so I scanned them and I haven't found what I am looking for but I am working on it!!!!!

They don't. That is a natural color of their fur, like the stripe down the back of a skunk.

From the sound of it you have a Garden Tiger Moth.
Methinks a skunk, as far as I know.
