Individual dioceses own real estate. Also, religious orders own real estate.

.

Answer

That would depend entirely on the country you are residing in. In the United States, every piece of property in a diocese is owned by the Bishop of that diocese, as a corporate sole. So every parish Church, rectory, school, parish hall, convent, etc. are all in the name of the current living Bishop of that diocese. Other countries may have other accommodations, but that is how the Church in the United States found peaceful coexistence with the civil government possible.

The Vatican City, a lot of charities, and a lot of Churches and Cathedrals.

Roman Catholic AnswerI can not speak for the whole church, I only know how things are set up in the United States. Here, everything in a particular diocese is "owned" by the Bishop. In other words, the title deed for every church, rectory, convent, school, etc. is in the name of the local bishop as a corporate sole. Each individual bishop owns everything in his diocese. In reality, he is holding these properties for the faithful. The Catholic Church, as an entity, doesn't really "own" much outside of the Vatican itself. And in all probability, everything in the Vatican is probably owned by its Bishop (the Holy Father) in trust for the Church.

Legally and morally, there is no one world-wide Catholic Church. Every diocese in the world is known as a "particular church", and even the pope's authority in regard to a Bishop in his own diocese is remarkably limited. The Vatican, the home of the Pope is technically just the Church of Rome, the diocese of Rome. Ever diocese in the world, if they have investments, would have them on their own, and without respect to any other diocese. So one cannot say that the "Catholic Church" owns this or that, you would have to ask what the Bishop of Raleigh owns, or the Bishop of Rome - if you want to know about the Vatican.

Does the Roman Catholic Church own valuable land and property?

Catholic AnswerThere is no "Roman Catholic Church", unless you are speaking of the local Catholic Church in the city of Rome. It's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church. .The Catholic Church does not own property as such, saving, of course, Vatican City, which actually is its own country, or city-state, if you will. In the United States, for instance, every thing in a diocese - parish Churches, property, schools, convents, everything is owned by the Bishop as corporate-sole. This is how the Catholic Church in the United States was set up due to the laws of that country. I am not familiar with other countries.
