Assuming both devices are the same type of device (both computers, both routers, both switches, etc), a crossover cable is needed for this. A crossover cable will move the transmit pins of one device to the receive pins of the second device, and visa-versa.
a serial interface on a router is basically used for WAN communications. we generally connect to other routers through internet using serial interface. In a lab scenario we generally emulate WAN connections by connecting the serial interfaces of the routers using a cable called DCE/DTE cable.
It would connect to the serial port interface of a router.
A cable or wifi. If a cable is used, it may be classed as a serial, parallel, or USB connecting cable - depending on the type of printer.
You can connect two or more computers using the following cables: Network cable USB cable Serial (used in old computers) Parallel (used in old computers)
A USB to serial cable is used to connect a device to the computer's USB port. Examples of devices that might be connected in this way are digital cameras, modems and PDAs.
serial cable
crossover cable is used to connect two switches.
Usually, nowadays, by using an USB cable or by wifi (wireless). A serial or parallel cable connection is less used except on much older printers.
To connect two Cisco 2600 series routers directly, you would typically use a crossover Ethernet cable if they are connected through their Ethernet interfaces. If connecting through serial interfaces, a serial cable (such as a DTE to DCE cable) would be appropriate. Ensure that the correct interface types are used for the connection type you are employing.
How can I configure straight through cable?
Cross cable.
