Pencils came before the typewriter. American colonists imported pencils from Europe in 1700s, whereas the first book written on a typewriter to be submitted to a publisher was Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn, in 1875.

Cameras were used in ancient Chinese times, though not for taking photographs. That didn't happen until 1817, when a French inventor called Nicephore Niepce took some non-permanent photographs.

Typing machines were invented before before the photographs, but not before cameras!
