What can I do for quick relief for my dogs itchy bottom when cant get to vets for few days?

Most of the time, a dog with an 'itchy bottom' is caused by impacted anal glands. These are scent glands in the dog's anus (similar to a skunk's musk gland) that are specific to each dog. This is why dogs sniff each other's butts when they meet. Under normal conditions, the scent gland is cleaned out when the dog defecates, but sometimes the gland gets plugged up and becomes inflamed. It's like a pimple. It's sore and itchy and irritating. The good news is that it can be treated like a pimple; you can squeeze the gland and pop it. This is the same thing you're paying the vet to do and it doesn't harm the dog (although they don't usually enjoy it). If you're willing to do it yourself, you can save some money on vet visits and, if you're unsure how to do it, there are plenty of 'how to' videos on YouTube or you can ask your vet to show you how to do it.
