It sounds like it may be a bacterial infection (clean the cage more) and you need to take the piggie to the vet and get the proper medication. Guinea pigs are not very resilient. Don't wait and try out different at home remedies. You could end up losing your guinea pig.

Not very likely, but another dog could lick the ear and get some in its mouth. Usualy when I apply ear drops I put them deep in the ear, then squish them around really well, then wipe off any excess around the ear opening.
