Over time, unresolved anxiety can lead to a whole host of problems as our mind starts to find reasons for why we are so anxious.

These reasons are based on real dangers that exist but are highly exaggerated.

They include:-

  • Something awful happening to ourselves or our loved ones. This can lead to

uncontrollable worrying about possible future catastrophes. (Seen in GAD).

  • Unseen threats (such as germs or contamination or, for some, being punished by

God). Thoughts about such threats may quickly become obsessive and often the

fear becomes so great that it leads to compulsive behaviours to try and protect

ourselves (Seen in OCD).

  • Being seriously ill. This often starts from of an 'out-of -the-blue' panic attack
which leads to recurring panic attacks. (Panic Disorder).
  • Other people rejecting, criticizing or hurting us in some way. (Social Phobia).
  • Sometimes the focus of the anxiety is not on possible threats but on our
inability to change anything. This can lead to the ever increasing feelings of

hopelessness and helplessness that lead to severe depression.
