Anything other than the pump
If fuel pumps were not necessary, there would not have any on your car! If there is a problem with your fuel pumps, your car will not start, or it will start but it won't run for very long.
I have replaced 3 fuel pumps in my 94 Jimmy in the last 12 years. Problem is with the pumps. I replaced mine with Autozone pumps. I heard only factory OEM pumps last. Ones at auto repair stores like Advance, Autozone or Pepboys burn up quick.
Fuel pumps must not be too long because of the circulation of the gasoline. Too much can heat up the gasoline and cause performance issues and cause cavitation to the pump.
i also have an 86 gt I've never had this problem but you may want to try taking your tank off and eithor cleaning or replacing you can also try regulator, injectors both can cause stress on the fuel pump if defective
My mechanic told me I have (2) gas tanks, and (2) fuel pumps. I know this cause I replaced (1) fuel pump already, the 2nd one just went out.
Yes it is. There are higher capacity fuel pumps available to solve the fuel shortage problem at the canister. see link
There is no reset switch for GM fuel pumps. What is the problem you are trying to solve? Stan
Chevy trucks did not use a RESET switch on there fuel pumps. You either have a bad fuel pump relay are fuse, It may be that the fuel pump has just quite. You did not say what year it was and I do no that Chevy had a problem with the wireing harness / connecter on the top of the fuel tank that would cause the pump to quite.
on cars that run with fuel injection it would be the fuel pump, or high performance cars that use electric fuel pumps.
YES it is. GM had a problem with the fuel pumps making noise and still does.
Swap the fuel pump relay with another like relay in the fuse/relay center. If the problem with the fuel pump goes away, the relay was bad. If not, knowing GM fuel pumps, the fuel pump is the problem.
On the in-tank fuel pump, or pumps if you have two tanks.
