The way flooding and rich soil contribute to the fertility of the land was that Mesopotamia citizens received a little bit of rain. That's when irrigation started. To irrigate their lands, they dug out canals, human-made water ways. This is what gave rise to farming.
Farming began thousands of years ago and it allowed man to settle together, creating government, inventing, discover new lands, feed large populations, and provided a means to have religious practices, art, music, and building projects. As people began to trade their foods, ideas, and culture came with them and others learned spreading the ideas.

Farming in the Bahamas is difficult because of the tropical conditions. The soil is a cause of poor transportation.
The black lands where farming areas around the nile and the red lands are deserts. They call the farming areas black lands beacause the soil when the nile floods (whitch is like a natrual ferilizer for the crops) is black. But, in the desert the sand and soil are a redish color (I am not sure why it is a redish color).
Drained lands are lands which used to be swamps, but which had a lot of water removed in order to make them into more usual dry land that can be used for farming, housing etc.
