Global warming is being caused by too much carbon pollution in the atmosphere. We need to stop burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) and move to renewable energy (wind, solar and others). One of the ways to do this is to make carbon polluters pay for a permit to pollute. The cost of this permit will encourage them to move to renewable energy.

Only governments can do this. People of good will can reduce their own carbon footprint, but the really big stuff has to come from governments.

Carbon polluters can compensate for their emissions by planting, or getting others to plant, billions of trees. Again, this can more simply be done through a system of trading carbon. Some governments have established a carbon permit scheme already.

The government can't stop the greenhouse effect per se, but they can levy"carbon taxes" or provide incentives for more "carbon neutral" energy sources. If not for the greenhouse effect, we would most likely freeze to death. The problem of climate change and global warming is partly due to carbon dioxide and other gases like methane (which is far more heat trapping than CO2 is). It's also due to a lot of other issues like solar activity and even the rotation of the earth.

I'm certainly all for using renewable energy, by the way.

We can reduce the effects of climate change if we act urgently. Governments have to

  • legislate to reduce carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gas emissions
  • encourage research and development of renewable sources of energy (hydro, solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, biofuel) to replace our reliance on fossil fuels
  • legislate to prevent destruction of forests and to encourage widespread planting
  • encourage sustainable choices by households for energy conservation through smart meters, variable time energy prices etc.

Governments can ensure that the cost of carbon pollution is factored in when new power plants are being built. This will mean that renewable energy (solar, wind, water, hydro, tidal and wave, geothermal, ocean thermal, biomass, biofuel and hydrogen) is more likely to be used. This will mean a reduction in greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

  • Legislate a price on carbon emissions
  • Close all fossil fuel power stations
  • all new power stations to produce renewable energy
  • replant the forests that have been destroyed
  • Find a cleaner way of producing cement
  • Mandate electric vehicles

Is global warming a cause or a effect of climate change?

Global warming is the cause of climate change.Climate change is the result of global warming.

What is climate change global warming causing?

"Climate Change" and "Global Warming" are not the same, though related. Global Warming causes Climate Change. With Global Warming we understand the warming of the earth's global temperature. That warming has in turn an effect on the earth's global climate and on more localized climates (like the climate of England or Western US).

What is a word or phrase that has the same meaning as global warming?

The answer you are looking for is climate change. However, the question is incorrect. Global warming is not the same as climate change. Global warming is the warming of the earth. Climate change is the result of this warming.

Is greenhouse effect is the other name of global warming?

Strictly speaking there is no other name for global warming."The whole earth heating up" might be another name.Global warming is causing climate change, so many people think they are both the same, so they say:"Climate change is another name for global warming", but they are not really the same.

What is usually caused by global warming?

Climate change is caused by global warming.

Is climate change a rise in the temperature of the earth?

No, global warming is a rise in the temperature of the earth. Global warming is causing climate change.

Why do some people want to call global warming climate change?

Climate change sounds a bit more benign than global warming. However, the two things are not the same. Climate change is actually the result of global warming.

How do humans contribute to climate change not including global warming?

Humans are contributing to global warming (by burning fossil fuel and cutting down forests) and global warming is CAUSING climate change.

What is global warming activity?

Global warming refers to the long term increase of the earths temperature. It is directly linked to climate change but is not an interchangeable term for it.

Why is the phenomenon called global warming more accurately described as climate change?

It is not. They are not both the same, in fact, they are cause and effect. Global warming is the warming of the earth. This warming is causing climate change.

Why is the term climate change used than global warming?

Global warming causes climate change. We now use the term climate change because it deals with all the many changes. Global warming is still happening and the warming is putting more energy into the atmosphere. This extra energy is changing the climate.

How does global warming and climate change is affecting Brazil?

Brazil itself is the main cause of global warming and climate change as they are continuously chopping down the rainforests!
