if its a baby, its best to use sounds that are in the mothers body. What u can do, is turn on the vacuum, hairdryer, or you can whisper into their ears. this is good, since the sound in mother body sounds like it, and if u have phones where u can download apps, u can download sounds of a hair dryer
if its a child, they best sleep if you read them a story, or you can get them to take a bath, fo as you can realize, a shower or a bath makes you tired. drinking warm drinks(no tea, it has caffeine) can help too, or get them to exercise, that make people tired.

Dummies, blankets, soft toys or thumbs are some of the comforters (or pacifiers, or attachment objects) that help children relax. Sucking is pleasant and calming for babies.
