Most near-Earth orbit satellites zip around the world every 90 minutes or so, and are constantly moving. There's a Javascript application on the NASA web site that will display the real-time positions of a few hundred of the more important satellites. Check the link below.

The only satellites that remain in one place are geosynchronous satellites in orbits about 22,300 miles up; at that altitude, the satellite orbits the Earth in 24 hours, which happens to be the same time that it takes the Earth to rotate. So GEO (geosynchronous Earth orbit) satellites appear to remain still in the sky. This trick only works at the equator, and is commonly used to communications satellites.
