people can help by taking care of the animals. I used to volunteer there and I scooped catlitter, played with dogs and cats, cleaned windows, and fed animals. As you get farther into it you get better responsibilities like taking dogs on walks and going to the pound area. I worked at a fairly large center so I don't kow about yours.
