Its a thin paper that you can see through - to trace. Its the same kind of thing as baking paper. Usually you put it on top of the paper you want to trace, and hold it up against a bright window so you can trace the design. Try Scrapbooking shops or shops that sell materials etc to find it. Ask your shop attendant if you cant find it.

You use it for tracing the outline of something you place it over! for instance a picture in a magazine or an old work in a museum or church if you can get hold of it. you trace the outlines throught the paper and then fill in the details yourself

  • Wire rack
Making the Paper

Saturate the paper and lift out.

  • Step 5:

Allow it to dry flat, for 2 to 3 days, on a wire rack.

Tips & Warnings
  • While it is easier to go and buy pre-made tracing paper, this is a fun DIY project to see how it is possible to be self-sustaining and resourceful.
  • If kids help make the paper, supervise usage of the turpentine.

What type of art supplies work best for tracing?

For tracing, you will need tracing paper and a pencil. Often times it is helpful to also have some sort of clipboard, tape, or tacky material to keep the tracing paper in place. If you're looking to do more heavy duty tracing, you can invest in a light board, which will shine light through regular paper, allowing you to see what you're tracing.
