Perhaps you meant to ask how would a pregnant or nursing woman fast. In those cases, the overriding consideration is one of safety. If the woman can fast with no personal danger, that should be done. A nursing woman can express some of her breast-milk before the fast, keep it frozen or refrigerated, and warm it during the fast (in a permitted manner), and use it to make sure there will be enough to feed the infant.
If there's a possibility that she won't be able to complete the fast, she may start the fast, and break it later if it becomes apparent that completing the fast would harm her.
If it's clear from the start that fasting would endanger her (or the infant), then she doesn't need to begin the fast.
In cases such as these (all of the above), a Rabbi should be consulted, since there are important further details; and because of the importance of both the fast and the safety of the people involved.
