Exercise
no, they are the same drug just different release profile.
In the two years since I began taking Tegretol, I have gained nearly two stone; but I am also on HRT, which I believe can also make one prone to weight-gain. So I think with me it is a combination.
Yes... it's supposed to. But in my son's case he never did.
Yes, many but ask your doctor.
Tell the doctor immediately if you experience weight gain. I had this happen to me with Seroquel.
It's the depakote that causes weight gain! Have your doctor find something else to replace it.
Seroquel is definitely the weight gainer. I've been on and off Depakote before with very little weight fluctuation, however with Seroquel I had not only a huge appetite that forced me to eat more, but I put on 20lbs in 2 weeks! I was really not into Seroquel at first, but it really did help with my mania.
Depakote will make you gain weight. watch out for your white cell count in your blood ,and damage to the liver. Over all I have been on Depakote for ten years and have gained 40 pounds after having brain surgery. I want to get off of it, but tried other medications, and they sucked.I get burning in my stomach and wish there was a way to diet , for everytime you take the pill it makes your stomach burn.
You may gain several pounds the first week. Make sure you excersice daily and keep lots of fruits and veggies on hand. It can be a wonderfull medicine so it is worth trying.
Unfortuanately Depakote augments a person's appitite, and as for the blood tests it should be monitored every 6 months.
If you're looking for alternatives to Depakote (valproate) that may have a lower risk of weight gain, options include lamotrigine or certain atypical antipsychotics like aripiprazole, which tend to have more favorable weight profiles. Additionally, mood stabilizers such as lithium or certain anticonvulsants like oxcarbazepine may be considered, but it's essential to consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice. Lifestyle modifications, including diet and exercise, can also help manage weight alongside any medication adjustments. Always discuss any medication changes with your doctor to ensure safety and effectiveness.
How much you take depends on your weight.
