Seroquel is definitely the weight gainer. I've been on and off Depakote before with very little weight fluctuation, however with Seroquel I had not only a huge appetite that forced me to eat more, but I put on 20lbs in 2 weeks! I was really not into Seroquel at first, but it really did help with my mania.
Tell the doctor immediately if you experience weight gain. I had this happen to me with Seroquel.
Exercise
no, they are the same drug just different release profile.
In the two years since I began taking Tegretol, I have gained nearly two stone; but I am also on HRT, which I believe can also make one prone to weight-gain. So I think with me it is a combination.
Yes... it's supposed to. But in my son's case he never did.
Alzheimer's commonly causes weight loss. Some medications that are used to treat Alzheimer's such as zyprexa and seroquel are know to cause weight gain.
Yes, many but ask your doctor.
it is absolutely safe, I've been taking them together for years. it really helps with the huge weight gain that seroquel is known for.
I gained 40 pds in three months on seroquel. With me the weight loss began immediatly as well as my hunger pains subsiding. I have been off of it for 2 months and have lost 30 pds. I have been taking seroquel for 5 years. Initially I gained 50 pounds, but after starting a healthy eating programme and gentle excercise the pounds are starting to come off.
the pill itself doesn't make you gain weight, but the sleepyness tends to make ppl over eat
What sort of depression do you have? Neither of these drugs should be used for regular depression (Major Depression). In fact, I am of the opinion they shouldn't be used long term for anything, for 2 reasons: 1) They cause permanent changes in the brain and leave you worse off than when you started. A recent study on schizophrenics is a good example. 2 groups were studied, one taking antipsychotics (depakote / seroquel), and the other taking no medication. For the first 3 years the group taking the medication did better, but after 3 years the group not taking anything was better off, and everyone who stopped taking medication was much worse. 2) They cause tardive dyskinesia, a form of permanent brain damage, in many people who take them. This is uncontrollable shaking and jerky movements, similar to Parkinsons Disease, and it never goes away. By the time you realize you have it, it is too late. Have you tried therapy? Many psychiatrists are far too quick to prescribe when there are other, better alternatives. Medication is easier for the doctor, but not necessarily better for the patient. If you are bipolar and absolutely have to take something, you might want to look into taking lithium. @Matthewterhune - if you`re an idiot please stop responding and scaring people for nothing moron. And now to go back to the question it is very hard to tell. If you`re bipolar 2 both are used to treat mania symphtoms but Seroquel is better for the depressive state then Depakote. You should wait and see. If you didn`t experience weight gain on Seroquel you won`t experience any one Depakote either. I wish you all the best
It's the depakote that causes weight gain! Have your doctor find something else to replace it.
