You need to get a release from the former lien holder and apply for a new title.

Lenders are required to provide releases when a loan is paid off under most state laws. If you are having trouble obtaining the release contact the consumer division in the office of your state attorney general.

How do i sell a wrecked car i still owe money on?

You cannot sell a car you have a loan on if the lender has a lien on the vehicle. You will need permission from the lien holder to sell the car. If the lender has no lien on the vehicle then you can sell it if you wish. The title will list any lien holder.

How do you remove a lien holder off an abandoned motorcycle in New Hampshire?

Generally to remove a lien, you have to pay the amount of the lien to the lien holder. Even if it is abandoned, the lien holder still has a financial claim against it that must be satisfied before the title is clear. The only other possibility is to show a court that the lien is not legitimate.

How do you locate a lien holder?

The lien holder is a person or business who have a concerned interest in a vehicle. Most times a bank or finanacial institution. You need to find the lien holder which is located on the title or can be found be contacting your DMV and giving the VIN and then finding their phone number, I would try calling information. Contact the lien holder and ask if the lien is still on the vehicle or what you need to do about having the lien removed. Sometimes a lien can still be on a vehicle even though it has been paid off, if the owner did not apply for a new title to clear the lien.

What is an auto lienholder?

A lien holder is someone who has a financial interest in a car. It could be the bank you financed it from, or someone else who the car owner owes money to. The car owner's name is on the title with the lien holder's name so that you can't sell the car without the lien holder signing the title...this means that you don't owe the lien holder any money on the car. The car is now 100% owned by the title owner.

Will an impounded vehicle be turned to the lien holder?

Not unless the lien holder goes and retrieves it from impound themselves. The reimbursement of government fees (federal, state, or municipal) outweighs the priorities of the lienholder. When a vehicle goes into impound, the agency which impounded the vehicle puts their own lien on it, and that lien takes priority over the original lien. If the vehicle is not retrieved from impound, it will be auctioned off, and the lien holder basically gets shafted in the process. The person who took the lien out on the vehicle will owe the remaining balance still, and one of the money the agency auctioning the vehicle makes will go towards reducing the amount owed to the lien holder. To that end, you're better to let the lien holder repossess the vehicle and auction it, rather than have it impounded.

Once you receive a signed notice of lien satisfied can the lien holder still state that you owe money towards the vehicle and send subsequent bills?

Is it a final lien waiver upon final payment? If it's a progress lien waiver, then they can still claim funds due. The final is final, and no further amounts would have to be paid.

How do you you get a clear title if the car was repossessed?

Repossessions do not show up on titles, however, they do show up on auto history reports. If there is a lien holder still on the title you will need to get them off by going to your local DMV.
