The FLASHING light indicates a do not drive situation. This is usually indicative of a misfire. The code will show up and tell you with the use of a code reader. The code will tell you which plug.
Most times it is a bad plug or coil pack. The rich condition created by the misfire will melt your catalytic converter if you continue to drive the vehicle. This is why the light flashes.

I just had the same problem on my Tacoma. I ran it through the scanner and it gave me the O2 sensor code. I checked some forums and they all recommended to clean the mass air flow sensor. I checked it, and even though it wasn't dirty, I cleaned it with some mass air flow cleaner (alcohol will do just fine) and the sputtering went away. I also changed the air filter while I was at it.
