If you are attached to his family, try working with his mother to pay off the loan. If you have no ties with your mother-in-law, and you are not worried about your credit, then let the loan go into default, and ultimately if you are unable to pay, the collectors will contact his mother for payment. If she is unable or not willing to pay, then the motorcycle will be repo'd and your credit and your mother-in-law's credit will show a default on a loan. Worse case is that you file bankruptcy and that will free you from the debt. Question: How come you couldn't get this resolved in divorce court?
