What can you do on Skype?

Getting Skype:

There are many different things you can do on Skype. All you need is a Webcam (if not built into your computer already) and the software - which you download from the Skype website. Once you download Skype you're ready to go, just create an account and your fab!

Chat (Instant Messaging - IM):

I always chat to friends that are online. If they are online, they get the message immediately and there you have it...instant messaging...or IM! It's great, because if you are in a rush and don't have time for a whole 2 hour + conversation over Skype, you can just type in Hi and then sign out! It's fantastic, especially when you don't have your webcam plugged in or as the unorgainsed sometimes have it - you've lost it!!!

Free Video Calling (anywhere, anytime):

Well this is such an awesome part of Skype. You have IM then Free Calling to other Skype Users which you add and then they are automatically listed in your Contacts on your Skype Page. All you have to do is log on to your account, see who else is online and press the green button after clicking on their Username in the contact list.

This calls them and if they pick up then 'there you go', you can have a nice long talk over the internet absolutely FREE! Of course, you are paying the internet Bill still, so that is the only Fee.

When my cousin was over in the US, she called us on Skype every Saturday morning or after I got back from school. I would sit at the computer for 2 to 3 hours once a week just listening to all she had been doing. The only problem is, you have to make sure you pick a suitable time, as the times in the different countries (US and Australia) are totally different!!!

Skype calls are available at anytime. You can be anywhere as well, you just have to remember your Skype Username and Password to access your contact list and other amazing things which you will read about next...

Personalise your Skype Page:

You can create an avatar on the Skype Website for your own profile picture...this you can choose to be shown in front of only your contacts or the public.

By personalising your Page, you can let your imagination run wild with amazing, yet brialliant ideas you have. You can also let everyone know how you feel by posting a video, mood or short sentence or two as your own personal tag line to share with your friends. This is a great way to just BE YOURSELF!!! I love spending my spare time letting myself go as far and as out-there as I possibly can!

Call to normal mobile phones:

You can also pay to call normal mobile phones using your Skype Account, although as I just mentioned, this does cost you money, so if I were you I would just persuade my friend/s to get Skype! It's a great way to keep in touch for as long as you want, whenever you want.

Just some handy info:

Skype works 24/7, so you never have to wait until 9pm or whenever to chat to your mates!

Trust me, I recommend it so much as you can just let yourself go! Chat to your friends instantly, video call them by using your webcam. This means that you actually see them, whereas the Instant Messaging is just typing and emoticons (the little smiley faces). So, if you are contemplating on whether to get Skype or not - I strongly recommend it, especially if you have friends or even family overseas and you don't want to pay over the phone!

This doesn't necessarily mean you can't stop or block people as well, because you can! If you like, you can give permission to your contacts and only them. So, that's about all it really does, other than Conference Calls and the alike. You can also add more people to a chat!!! So you can talk to not just one person, but up to 20 (I think)
