What can you do when no heat comes out on my 1998 mercury sable gs?

I had the same problem with my sable. More then likely your coolant is mixed with rust and it is so thick that the heater core is clogged up with it. You have some options. Replace the heater core or go to a place like VIP and have them do a coolant flush in which in my case they did a power flush on the heater core as well as flushed out the regular system. This took a while as there was a lot of stuff in the core so be patient. It also may or may not be one of the following: the water pump or the thermostat. They hooked my car up to a computer and did diagnostic to make sure of what the problem was as well as visually inspected the engine. It cost me around $175 to have this done.
Another possibility, IF the blower is working, is the temperature blend door actuator motor. Primary symptom is if you hear a thumping type noise from the dash when changing the temperature settings. Not an uncommon problem, and not a difficult fix.
