A strange rock is an item you will randomly get when skilling. You need two of the same strange rocks, then take it to Varrock museum and talk to the Museum Corrator (sorry spelt wrong). Then you are able to add the rocks to the statue plinth and receive experience in the skill you got the strange rock from.
- Free exp in the skill you got the strange rocks from
- Randomly received when doing the skill
- You may only receive 2 rocks in each skill until all of your rocks are used on the plinth, once they are, it will "reset" and you can go get strange rocks from all the skills again until you again have 2 strange rocks in each skill
If They're the ones you get from doing skills, Then you have to take them to the varrok museum. On the main floor in which you enter, there is a plinth besides an archeolegist table. You have to show an archeolegist the stones (You need 2 of each skill, e.g 2 fishing rocks) and then he will allow you to put them on a plinth. you get xp for the skill that the rock type was (fishing, smithing, etc..) and you have to make a saradomin statue.
That was sorta long, but its right :)
They are awarded by doing all skills. When you get two you can go to the Varrock Museum and trade them in for exp in the skill where you found them.

To mine coal in RuneScape you need a pickaxe and the required level to mine it. Then all you have to do is equip or carry the pickaxe and click on the rock containing coal. If you do not know what a rock contains then right-click the rock and select to 'prospect' option. You will then be informed as to what is in the rock.
