When is it a good time to start to use tampons?

You should start using tampons as soon as you are comfortable with your period as well as your pads. If you are a swimmer, athlete etc. you should try tampons cause you can go underwater. To use a tampon varies w/ different people.

Do you still need a pad or tampon after you period?

No, tampons and pads (also other menstrual products) are only needed on your period.Once your period is over you no longer use tampons or pads, in fact as your period comes to an end you need to stop using tampons because tampons cannot be used with light flow or spotting. It is a good idea to carry tampons and pads with you ready for when your next period starts, if you're young menstrual cycles can be irregular so your periods can start suddenly without warning.

Is it a problem if the plastic shell from a tampon smells acidic when removing it?

If you're using tampons with plastic applicators then you're using commercial tampons, these are BLEACHED and heavily chemically treated so can have a chemical smell. If you're concerned about an acidic smell on the applicator you really need to address why you're using bleached tampons, there are plenty of other safer options: organic tampons, sponge tampons, soft tampons, diaphragms, softcups, menstrual cups, organic pads, cloth pads, etc.

Can you use tampons if you haven't started your period?

No, you should only use tampons when menstruating. Using tampons when not menstruating not only puts you at unnecissary risk but also increases risks of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). TSS is caused when certain bacteria multiply and create a toxin, if you lack antibodies this bacterial toxins overwhelms your immune system and it can be fatal. Tampons always risk TSS but using tampons when you're not menstruating or using too high a flow increases risks because tampons dry-out vaginal tissues causing ulceration that gives the bacterial toxins a direct route into your bloodstream. Not to mention that using tampons when not bleeding would be very uncomfortable due to friction and the drying effect on your vagina.

Tampon and pelvic inflammatory disease?

Tampons are not associated with pelvic inflammatory disease, and there is no increased risk from using tampons if you have pelvic inflammatory disease.

How can you talk to your mom about using a tampon?

You simply talk to her about using tampons as you would talk to her about anything else. You do respect your moms choice if she is not okay with you using tampons, given health risks of tampon use (which are increased in pre-teens and teens) she has to be the one to decide if you're responsible enough to use tampons safely and understand the risks.

Is it a sin if you pop your cherry?

No, it happens all the time from using tampons.

Can a tampon slip out during pregnancy?

A woman should NEVER use tampons when not menstruating - thus a pregnant woman wouldn't be using tampons to begin with.

Why would someone feel sharp pains in their pelvic area while using tampons?

Tampons can increase menstrual cramps if they expand into your cervix - if you have a short vaginal canal and use lengthways expanding tampons this will be worse. Tampons also damage vaginal tissues, if using rayon tampons that are too high an absorbency they may cause tears. If you're sure tampons are the cause of this then use pads or cups instead, they're safer anyway.

What if you used a tampon before you knew you were pregnant?

There is no harm in using tampons when you're pregnant, although pregnancy usually doesn't require tampons. Don't worry about it.

How are tampons inserted?

Tampons are inserted into the vagina during menstruation, using lowest absorbency. If you want to use tampons then you will find instructions on the packet on how to use tampons correctly. You can also look online for videos that will show you how to insert whatever type of tampon you want to use.

Will it hurt to start tampons at 10 without doing sports?

Sports has no effect on using tampons or pain when using tampons.Tampons can hurt if not used correctly. If you're not relaxed enough. If using too high an absorbency. If using without heavy enough flow.If your hymen is particularly tough. If allergic to chemicals in tampons. If not aimed in the right direction. If not inserted high enough.Tampons are not recommended to pre-teens or teens - younger women are at far higher risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome and the younger a woman start using commercial tampons the longer she is exposed to dioxin so the higher the long-term risks. Younger women are also often less informed about safer options to make an educated choice, less likely to understand risks, and less likely to follow precautions to reduce risks. It is best for younger women to start with pads, and if they want to use internal options to use safer options like menstrual cups which pose no health risks like tampons do.
