In all probability, oil enter the spark plugs due to the following reasons, (1) worn Piston rings and (2) worn Valve seal. In such a case, your car is harder to start since the combustion needed is not satisfied. Have your piston combustion be tested.

If it is getting on the top of of the plug, replace the valve cover and plug tube seals/gaskets.

How do you stop oil from getting into the spark plugs?

if oil is getting into spark plugs, this indicates that either the valve stem seals need replacing,or the oil rings on pistons are worn and need replacing. if valve stem seals are the problem ,the vehicle will really be blowing a lot of exhaust smoke to the extent sometimes that it will look like a smoke screen behind you

98 Dodge Neon won't start and plugs had oil on them?

I am not a professional mechanic but i think that you might have blown rings on the pistons that have oil on the spark plugs. what is probably happening is the rings are bad so, you are not getting good if any compression in the cylinders and the oil on the plugs is probably from a bad oil control ring also on the pistons and the oil is getting past the pistons onto the plugs.
