1998 and 1999 caddys with the LD8 AND L37 (NORTHSTAR) ENGINES.
No
It's in the fuel tank, the same as essentially all modern cars.
Do a fuel pressure check. I had the same problem and it was my fuel pump.
Get a helper to turn on the ignition without starting the engine. At the same time you listen at the fuel filler door with the fuel cap off. You should hear the pump run for a few seconds and then shut down. If you do not hear the pump check the fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay. If they are good the pump is defective. If the pump runs and you are not getting fuel to the engine either the fuel filter is clogged or the pump is running but not pumping fuel. Replace the fuel filter and proceed from there.
You can check by looking up the pump on any of the big box parts store's websites. Compare the part numbers of the pumps for the two cars.
Could be the fuel pump. My Ford did the same thing...it was awful! I got a new fuel pump...and all is well. Also try a fuel injector cleaner from the gas station...temp. fix only
If it is loud (louder than other GM cars of the same era with fuel injection) I'd suggest you get it replace BEFORE you are stranded. Running out of fuel damages the fuel pump. They all do make some noise, but the noise is not "loud" Sometimes the baffels in the tank break and pieces of the baffels lodge in the fuel pump.
Possibly but not likely. You probably have a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. You might want to check your oil first. most cars have a safety switch that will shut the fuel pump off if the oil pressure is low.
Yes.
No.
Yes this is a safety feature found on some cars that is an inertia switch. Power is cut to the fuel pump whenever the car is in an accident. You push the switch to reset it and restore power to the pump. There is also a fuel pump relay, that is sometimes called a switch, although it is not actually a switch. This relay closes and turns the fuel pump on when the ignition is turned on. It will stop the pump if the engine is not started.
Just take the old one off and put a new one on in the same place. The '99 Cadillac Seville pump is in the fuel tank, so the tank must be removed and a special tool used to remove the lock ring. there should be a access hatch in the trunk under the carpet or under back seat
