There does not appear to be ay record of a tornado hitting anywhere named Rye Cove in 1924. However, a town by that name in Virginia was hit by a destructive tornado in 1929. It was rated F2.

This should be taken with a grain of salt however, as this was before the era of consistent record-keeping of tornadoes, which began in 1950 and the Fujita scale was not developed until 1971, though tornadoes can be rated retrospectively.
