The chemicals in a cigarette damages the cilia, which lines the airways (trachea), so they cannot remove tar, dirt and mucus from the lungs. Excess coughing can damage the aveoli and cause emphysema.

it is when the cilia is burnt off allowing all the dust to get in your throat which causes mucus. thus coughing. but another alternative is that it is when your mum chockes on a banana.or your dad if he's gay.
