mine has been doing the same thing and its either a head gasket or a cracked head im just replacing my motor
could be bad valve stem seals, allowing oil to run down into combustion chamber, that is causing blue smoke tappet noise is generally caused by bad lifters or not enough oil if hydraulic lifters,or by in correct adjustmant of tappets if mechanical
300zx twin turbo lots of black smoke and running rough
a cracked head
After the mechanic finds that the transmission is shifting rough, he will inform the customer of the problem and do further tests to determine the cause of the problem. After that he will take the appropriate steps to resolve the issue.
Hydraulic valve lash adjusters (lifters on 4-cyl rocker arms on 6-cyl) have worn out. Replace as needed.
you pooped in your pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Black smoke is caused by excessive fuel in the engine
Worn valve guides? New answer : Worn valve guides WILL cause some what of a rough idle and engine would smoke at all times. If engine smokes at start up only and then quites then your problem would be the VALVE SEALS.
cause smoke doesnt do anything
Cigarettes can cause more than lung infections. They can cause cancer, and even death. Cigarette smoke is just as bad as smoke from a fire, and with cigarettes, you are inhaling that smoke. The smoke from the cigarette can also cause cells to die, which is not good at all.
Blown head gasket is the likely culprit. It could be a blown head gasket, but if the engine isn't sputtering or running rough, that is unlikely. It could be a leaking head gasket, but unless it is vomitting water when the accerator is depressed, this is unlikely. The most likely cause is a common one for that year and model Chrysler/Plymouth minivan. The lifters in the engine are held up by clips. It is a common occurrance for these clips to loosen and drop after about 70,000 miles. The exhaust will smoke, it may use a little more oil, but it is not a critical problem. It can be fixed, but it is expensive, and not altogether necessary.
Stuck or broken oil rings can cause blue smoke.
