Sometimes the British would arm the Indians and incite to attack the settlers. The United States may have seen an "opportunity " to grab land, while the British were deeply involved in a bitter war with France. The small number of regular British Army units in Canada was a further inducement for the land hungry Americans war hawks to invade Canada.
