Hey, I'm currently doing the Scramble for Africa at AS too and I've been asked to discuss causes for the Second Boer War of 1899.
There are many reasons:
Economic value of the Transvaal where there were diamonds and gold
Strategic: Protect the Cape Route by reducing threat of Boers gaining Bechuanaland.
International Rivalries: Boers rising power through their economic prosperity and also Germany.
First Boer War.
Of course you'd have to explore these answers in depth, these are just brief points.
I hope this has helped.
The causes of the trek were complex but can be summarized in a single sentence. The trekkers left because of a lack of land, labour and security, which they felt unable to address due to a lack of representation, giving rise to a profound sense of marginalization.
The trek Boers were immigrants from Holland and Belgium, many of them fleeing from religious persecution back home.
The Great Trek was an eastward and north-eastward migration during the 1830s and 1840s of the segment of Afrikaners known as Boers or Boere (Dutch/Afrikaners for "farmers"), who descended from settlers from western mainland Europe, most notably from the Netherlands. The majority of the Boer who took part in the Great Trek had left Europe because of religious discrimination. They generally did not find life under British authority in the Cape Province to be much better. So the great Trek was a search for a Boer homeland where they could live as they wished. In the trek they founded many new colonies, the Orange Free State, the Transvaal and Natalia. They fought the Zulu and other native tribes as well as the British in their search fo a place to live.
The Great Trek was the migration by Dutch settlers away from British control in what is now South Africa.

Something about the Zulu aggression. And the groups that had the tension that resulted in the great trek also went to war in 1899.
One of the effects of the Great Trek was that conflict and wars soon began to break out.
