Gasoline was never rationed during the 1950s. During World War II. Gasoline was rationed. Gasoline rationing stopped in the fall of 1945.
The technological breakthrough that led to an increased demand for slaves in the early to mid 1800's was the cotton gin. Since the gin quickly and easily separated the cotton fibers from the seeds, plantation owners were able to increase their rate ofproduction which resulted in greater demand for slaves to work in the fields.

The price of gasoline will increase.
People do more traveling in the summer so the demand for gasoline increases. With higher demand, prices increase to compensate. Also, there is higher demand for heating oil in the winter. It is not possible to refine heating oil without also producing gasoline; so there is a surplus of gasoline in the winter, which tends to lower the price.

Actually, the first gasoline was unleaded. Sometime in the 1940s lead was added to increase the octane rating. Environmental legislation in 1975 began the phase-out of leaded gasoline.
Elastic demand changes according to some other factor. The demand for holdiay trees is elastic throughout the year because there is only damand during the winter season. Inelastic demand is constant. As you might have guessed, the demand for gasoline is inelastic because most families need a constant supply. Even during the so-called summer driving season, the uptick in demand is going to remain the same, unless prices cause what is called "demand destruction." This is what happened during 2009.
Both military aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, photo reconnaissance) and land vehicles (e.g. tanks, antitank guns, jeeps) used gasoline and in massive quantities. Also naval landing craft used gasoline. Tanks especially got very low gas mileage (usually measured in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon) because of the weight of their armor. There was still civilian demand for gasoline, but this was severely limited by tight rationing regulations so that the first priority military demand could be met.
