How much of the city was destroyed in the bombing od hiroshima?

Buildings collapsed. Electrical systems were shorted. A wave of secondary fires resulted, adding to their holocaust. Flash burns from primary heat waves caused most of the casualties to inhabitants. Others were burned when their homes burst into flame. Flying debris caused many injuries. A fire storm of winds followed the blast at Hiroshima as air was drawn back to the center of the burning area. Trees were uprooted. The bomb took the lives of 42,000 persons and injured 40,000 more. It destroyed 39 percent of all the buildings standing in Nagasaki. According to U.S. estimates, 40,000 people were killed or never found as a result of the second bomb.

How hot did the ground get at the attack at hiroshima?

The central portions of the cities underneath the explosions suffered almost complete destruction. The only surviving objects were the frames of a small number of strong reinforced concrete buildings which were not collapsed by the blast; most of these buildings suffered extensive damage from interior fires, had their windows, doors, and partitions knocked out, and all other fixtures which were not integral parts of the reinforced concrete frames burned or blown away; the casualties in such buildings near the center of explosion were almost 100%. In Hiroshima fires sprang up simultaneously all over the wide flat central area of the city; these fires soon combined in an immense "fire storm" (high winds blowing inwards toward the center of a large conflagration) similar to those caused by ordinary mass incendiary raids; the resulting terrific conflagration burned out almost everything which had not already been destroyed by the blast in a roughly circular area of 4.4 square miles around the point directly under the explosion (this point will hereafter in this report be referred to as X). Similar fires broke out in Nagasaki, but no devastating fire storm resulted as in Hiroshima because of the irregular shape of the city. -The Manhattan Engineer District, June 29, 1946.-

When was the most recent Wildfire?

As soon as this question is answered it will be wrong, because there are new wildfires every day somewhere in the world. When it is summer in America, there will be wildfires. When it is summer in Europe, there will be forest fires. When it is summer in Australia, there will be bush fires. Fires are caused naturally, usually by lightning strikes, but some are caused by arson, that is, they are deliberately lit. Often fires cause expensive damage to crops, animals and property, and sometimes people die too.

When did the Victorian fires stop?

The fires have not completely stopped, but the worst of them are over. As of 12 March 2009, authorities in Victoria announced that the last of the worst bushfires which caused the most death and devastation were under control. However, there are many minor fires that, without significant rain, are expected to continue to burn until the Australian wimter, which begins in June. Conditions remain very dry, and lightning strikes have caused more fires, but these have been easily contained.
