What are the causes of Indian mutiny?

The Indian mutiny occured in May 1857. It was triggered by the
introduction of the enfield rifle, which required a mix of pig and
cow fat to be smeared on the cartridges (pig fat being offensive to
Muslims and cow's to hindus). It was the final straw for the sepoys
after having their payment of batta removed (a payment
traditionally given to them when serving abroad). They mutinied and
caused rebellion to spread throughout the population

Who wrote the book 1857?

As far as I can see there is no book with the title simply
"1857", although there are a few with the words 1857 in the title;
most refer to the Indian Revolt (uprising) against British rule in
the year 1857.
The Great Mutiny: India 1857 by Christopher Hibbert
Of course there were also a number of books published in the
year 1857.

Cause of Indian loss in revolt of 1857?

The most important reason for the failure of Indian mutiny in
1857 was the absence of a central cohesive force and combined and
coordinated war effort. This allowed East India Company to claw its
way back into contention despite earlier setbacks and eventually
defeat mutineers. Large Indian princely states like Hyderabad,
Mysore, Travancore, and Kashmir did not join the mutiny which had a
negative effect on the effectiveness of the effort.

What are the reason for the revolt of 1857?

The revolt in 1857 was also known as the Sepoy Mutiny in India.
It was caused because of the growing displeasure of the Indian
soldiers working for the British East India Company. What sparked
the revolt was that the British East India company gave the
soldiers cartridges greased with cow and pig fat, which is against
Hindu and Muslim religious ideology. This caused a revolt from the
Sepoys, which caused the British Empire to take India from the BEI
company.
Asked in Sepoy Mutiny
What was the importance of the Sepoy Mutiny?

It marked India's first attempt to gain independence from the
oppressive British rule.
This was the mutiny of Sepoy (Indian) soldiers, from the British
army in 1857. The seeds of the mutiny were sown by increasing
discontent, by many Indians, with British rule in India. The
immediate proximate cause to the mutiny, itself, was the
circulation of a rumor that the British rifles (which Indians had
been given to use) were greased with beef fat. In a country where
cows are sacred, this rumor alone was enough to precipitate the
mutiny of these Indian soldiers from the British army. The British
put down the Sepoy mutiny and rebellions quite brutally and
re-established their rule over (most of) India.
