This was largely due to the lack of prospects and unemployment in rural Ireland in the 19th century. Large scale emigration continued until the 1920s.

The reason that slaves came to America is because white people were to lazy to do the dirty work so they took my kind from there homes and brought them over to America to do all the dirty jobs.

They were considered to be lazy and drunkards, so the only jobs they could find were with the railroads building them. It was hard long work, but it was work and it fed their families.Like most of us, we need to work...And this is where they proved themselves.
