Originally formed during Reconstruction, the Klan disbanded in its final years. After seeing a movie "Birth of a Nation" by D.W. Griffith, William Joseph Simmons was inspired to revive the white terrorist group in 1915. This sequel to the original Ku Klux Klan not only targeted blacks, but Jews, Catholics and foreigners as well.
It has never been gone. At times it is seen more than others, but hate doesn't go away. The last time I checked there were 43 hate groups just in CA so they are in every state. In the 1920's the KKK had so many members that they marched in downtown Washington DC and ran a man openly for president. A few years ago they lost a major law suit and that took the wind out of their sails for a time, but they have never gone away.
The KKK was revived (actually created anew) in 1915 near Atlanta, Georgia, largely, but not entirely, to promote and enforce state-wide alcohol prohibition that had been imposed a few years earlier but was under attack.

One key factor that stopped Wegener from fully proving his theory of continental drift was the lack of a plausible mechanism to explain how continents could move. Additionally, Wegener faced resistance from the scientific community who were skeptical of his ideas based on the limited evidence he presented at the time. Lastly, the technological advancements necessary to provide compelling evidence for his theory, such as satellite mapping and deep-sea drilling, were not available during Wegener's time.
I believe KKK started when the civil war ended, and yes they are still around today, particularly in the south.
A movie called Birth of a Nation was part of what causes the reemergence of the KKK in the 1920s. Another reason for the reemergence was the changes in the country, some did not like these changes.
Watch the movie The Birth of A Nation: The Clansman
A number of factors led to the emergence of the second KKK or KKK of the 1920s. The film "Birth of a Nation," the controversies surrounding alcohol prohibition, a red scare, rising immigration, and rapid social/economic changes in society all contributed to its rise.
