When the commonwealth forces were defeated on Italy they were forced to evacuate to crete. But they had left there good radio equipment on italy so they could not communicate properly with the allied forces hence why we retreated and gave the germans the airfield. This is why we shouldn't have lost as we had over forty thousand men and the germans only had ten thousand yet they lost four thousand on the first day. Which is why the allied forces should never have retreated.
