Best Answer

I had a problem with a 1999 Villager Front Driver side Dragging, causing a system overheat.

I replaced the Master Cylinder from Auto Zone $32 and change after core return, works great. I still need to bleed the rear brakes but the front no longer drags.

If you would like to check your system from the Master Cylinder here's how.

-

1 Set parking brakes and block rear wheels.

-

2 Elevate the front end on Jack stands, wheels off the ground.

-

3 Set transmission on Neutral, pump brakes several times and release.

-

4 Wheels should spin freely by hand. If wheels are free proceed to step 18.

-

5 Loosen the brake line on the top forward part of the master cylinder.

-

6a If the left front wheel is released. proceed to step 7-9.

-

6b If the left front wheel does NOT release, proceed to step 10.

-

7 You have just verified that the system is clear from the caliper to Master Cyl.

-

8 Replace the Master Cylinder. Bleed system and check for drag on brakes.

-

9 If the problem persist you may need to replace the valve on top of Master Cyl.

-

10 Tighten brake line on step 5.

-

11 Loosen the next fitting down stream towards the front left caliper.

-

12 Check the wheel after the fitting is loosened.

-

13 If the wheel is not released. Tighten the fitting and repeat step 11-13.

-

14 If the wheel is released. proceed to step 15.

-

15 Remove and examine the component upstream of the last fitting loosened.

-

15a Upstream component between the last fitting and the master cylinder.

-

16 Replace component if found to be defective.

-

17 Bleed the brake system. Repeat step 1-4

-

18 Make sure that brakes are working properly before the wife drives it.
