It could be a number of things, from a fuel line problem, to an electrical problem, even an air intake problem starving the engine. There are too many variables to say anything definitively, so you are better off taking the vehicle to a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Dealer, or a 3rd party service center, and have them diagnose the problem.
