Most likely a wheel bearing. They are a pressed bearing so a dealer will probably need to do the replacement.
Wheel bearing Is it worse or better when taking turns?
Normally a wheel or halfshaft bearing will whine at speed and will grind at all speeds, when severely worn.
Could be a number of things - bearings or differential in the rear axle worn or out of oil, tyre wear, or maybe the mother-in-law in the boot!
This is due to wear. You can try changing the diff oil by removing bottom drain plug on diff. then undo the higher one and refill. You can also buy additives to remove whine worth a try. I hope this helps
Have you checked the rear end fluid yet? Before jumping to a new rear, I would at least see how the fluid is in the rear end.
Over inflation of tire. - lower your pressures.
Growl, whine, clunks,
I'd look at the pinion bearing first. It's near the end of the rear end.
Brake linings worn out or wheel bearing is bad
Lack of oil or worn gears. Hope this helps, B Pacie
Normally the rear end will whine or roar if its going bad but that could be because it has no gear oil in it.
How do you replace rear shocks on a 2003 altima?
