This sounds like a ground problem. In the electrical field you can have all the new parts it takes to make a car go but if there is the sligthest hint of a wire not being grounded good you can get clicks or nothing at all. Grounds are found in order of what to check first: 1) The battery + & - while the battery is new the connections must be cleaned and sufaces cleaned with a wire bush, or by pooring Coke Cola on the terminals. 2) I found another ground on the right side\passager side up by the right head light. It has a plastic cap cover it and located to the right of 3 fuses. If step one doesn't do it, clean the connections at this area. 3) If steps 1 & 2 result in the same look for a ground strap coming off the starter located under the car close to the fly wheel & transmission. If there is a ground strap disconnect you battery cable so sparks don't fly and reduce the risk of a light shock, then remove the bolts that hold it on, clean with wire bush the bolt, ends of the strap, and connects to the starter and frame the strap goes in. Not for sure this car has such a strap but I had a 74' Cad that was dead for 3 days while I replaced every electrical part I could think of until the service manager from the Cad dealer told me there was such a thing. I cleanned it and it started right up. Hope some and any of this helps. Have the starter checked at a parts store for a bad solenoid. Make sure wire connections are clean. As well as all grounds. Oil leaking onto any of them can disrupt the connection.
alternator needs to be replaced. battery also might be a problem due to the alternator not charging it
The same thing happened with my a987 Chevy Celebrity 2.8L V6. Its problem turned out to be failed fuel injectors. I replaced 3 out of the 6 injectors and it has been fine since.
The regulator is in the engine computer not the alternator.
Either it the accessory belt is worn out or one of the accessory (alternator, water pump, etc...) that need to be replaced.
my 05' cavalier has a bad alternator problem its charging the battery a little bit then stops and the little power my battery has is drained by the end of the night. I replaced the alternator twice and the battery but still no difference.
The Celebrity was replaced by the all-new Lumina.
The computer only resets when the battery is removed. The alternator just charges the battery, so if the battery is left connected when the alternator is replaced, the computer should not reset.
Inside the alternator, some are easily replaced and some are soldered in place.
We replaced the alternator on 2 different vehicles. It was around $175 for each.
Inside the alternator
In most cases an alternator will last well over 100,000 miles
Loosen the tensioner bolt on your 1997 Kia alternator. Move the alternator to the left. The alternator belt will become loose and can be replaced.
