What causes a Pool surface to get rough like sandpaper. filter is picking up a sandy residue. Walls and bottom are the same. tried using a wire brush for the surface to no avail wall color uncahnged?

Check to see if the calcium content in the pool is getting to high. Your pool shop will probably be able to check for this wit a water sample. If it is calcium acid will move it, just be careful with the stuff.
