What are the animal preservatives?

The old stuff, from about 20 years ago was called formaldehyde. However, it turned out that formaldehyde is carcinogenic (causes cancer). So, it was outlawed and replaced with a slightly different preservative named formalyn. Formaldehyde changes (denatures) proteins by causing certain amino acids to join. Formalyn works in a similar fashion. Formalyn is a diluted form of formaldehyde with about 10% methanol added in. They are both preservatives and antibiotics, too.
