Sounds like the alternator belt is loose and needs to be adjusted. With the engine off push down on the belt and see if it moves more than half an inch in the middle between two pulleys. If it does, it is too loose and needs to be tightened. You can tighten it by loosening the top bolt on the alternator and prying it away from the engine until the belt is tight. Hold it in place and retighten the bolt on the alternator. You may need to replace the belt if it has been loose too long or shows signs of cracking. If the belt looks ok but has a glaze on the part that touches the pulleys, you can use a standard bar of hand soap to lubricate the belt.
the guinea pig squeals because it thinks food is in it.
Perhap throw-out bearing need lubrication
The reason a water pipe squeals is because of the water rubbing against the metal of the pipe.
Can you tell us little more? Does the engine squeal when the car is just sitting and idling? Or, is the squeal from the suspension .... it squeals when you're moving or turning?
These creatures are very vocal. They will squeal at all kinds of things. It will not be a bad thing if it squeals like this if you know there is nothing wrong with it.
There may be damage or misalignment in the front brakes if this is where the sound is coming from. If it is from more generally under the hood, this can be the power steering.
it could be your pulley that keeps tension on your belt or it could be a belt
Fan belts usually squeal when they are loose or glazed over. Check and see if it is loose and tighten it if necessary. If it is tight and still squeals try getting some belt dressing for an auto parts store and spraying it on the belt.
you might need a new belt I've got a old jeep that needs one and it squeals when you get up into higher rpms
To me it would mean that you have a drive belt that squeals either because its worn out or something is causing it to squeal like a bad pulley or one of the components that the belt rides on........
Snowball squeals and the attack by Benjamin, the sheep, Muriel, and himself immediately ceases and the animals flee back to the barn in preparation for the final battle.
A loose belt. Most likely the alternator belt, if it doesn't squeal when you make a sharp turn.
