if you are referring to the sight glass when the tractor is running the fluid will not be seen in the glass because it will be in all the hydraulic lines and pumps

Go to your John Deere dealer and pay big bucks for their hydrostatic fluid or go almost anywhere else and buy a good quality hydraulic fluid.
The hydraulic fluid goes in the back of the tractor above the PTO shaft, there's a screw off cap; the dip stick is on the lower right of same.

According to my manual the x300 is a closed and sealed transmission unit. No adding hydraulic fluid for the do-it-youself mechanics. Suppose there is a way but I believe that the dealership has to do that work if it's needed.
