Parasitic voltage drain. Are you leaving something like an inverter plugged in? If you installed a new car stereo or amp for example and connected to a power source that is "hot" all the time, whatever is on that line will drain the battery all the time.

How many times can you jump a car battery?

As long as the battery is functional you can continue to jump it. However, know that every time you run a car battery down you shorten its life. A battery that is designed to be run completely down and then recharged is called a deep cycle battery. Automobile batteries are not deep cycle batteries. Discharging them completely causes damage to the battery itself.

You did not drive your car for 13 days and now it does not start at all?

Something is discharging the battery when it is not running. Have the electrical system checked.

What can kill your car battery?

Repeated discharging of the battery will destroy it. Connecting the cables in reverse will destroy the battery. An alternator that is overcharging will also destroy the battery. Vibration and or dropping the battery will do it no good. Lastly is age. Over time the battery will cease to function.

What causes a car battery to cross polarize?

A typical car battery is made out of Lead, Lead Oxide and an acidic solution of water and sulphuric acid. When the battery is used, discharging and recharging, there will be particles formed that due to gravity will drop down and form an increasing layer of conducting material at the bottom. With use, the cells will eventually shortcut due to this layer building up and "touching" the plates of lead/lead oxide.

What causes a new car battery to expand?

Overcharging.

What causes a car battery to drain on a mercury sable?

What causes a battery to reverse polarity?

Discharging it to 0V (ie. absolutely empty). And not battery, but "cell" (even a small AA or AAA battery is consider a "cell" - think Duracell).Batteries are usually made up of individual cells (like car batteries, RC batteries etc.), and even if not all of them are discharged completely, if even just one cell reverses polarity, it will do irreversible damage to the battery.

What causes a car battery to get hot?

poss alternator fault

Why does battery die when car is idle?

Something causes a slow drain on your battery. As it does, your battery slowly discharges. If you know that your car will be not used for several months, you might try disconnecting on of the battery terminals.
