What causes attifreeze to leake from the bottom of the 99 gmc 1500 suburban?

My leak was a union in the hose system to the left of the engine and near the firewall. It is a plastic valve that probably reguates water into the heater core. My first problem was a crack in the valve. After replacement I had to snug up the clamps after a few thousand miles.
