my brakes squeek do i need new brakes??? More than likely it's just a build up of brake dust causing the squealing best advise I can offer is to have the brakes checked & cleaned As long as the brakes are not grinding you should be OK for a little while
Cheap brake pads or they have too much metallic particles in them.
Try replacing your brake calipers.
BRAKES squeek when the pads are worn down to the point where they are unsafe and need replacing.
Wear indicators? Pad replacement required?
Does it squeek? Or is it grinding? Possible sand/ gravel trapped in your brakes. Or you need some new pads. If it's during winter and you break hard and start sliding.. then it would be your ABS kicking in.
Hey Marvin==Since the epa took away asbestos from the manufactures of brake linings, it is common for them to squeek. Some brands squeek worse than others. GoodluckJoe
When break pads begin to wear out they are designed to squeek to let the driver know that they are on their way out. When you hear squeeking during regular use of your brakes, it is time to think about having them replaced.

ABS brakes are not spongy. If you have spongy brakes the reason is that there is air in the system. You need to have your brakes bled.
