depends on early or late model. lots of early models will just shut off while driving down the road etc, and never start again. cant rmember right now on late ,mind is on another project, sorry

the ignition control module is operated by the pcm,the pcm tells the ignition control module when to energize the coils to enable spark

Ignition coils can go bad for several reasons. Age, water, bad distributor coil, ac voltage spike from a bad alternator. Some aftermarket coils go bad due to less than factory build specs.
